Backcountry Ramen in the North Cascades

Learn how to cook backcountry ramen on the shores of Goat Lake.

What to Expect:

The class will take place at Goat Lake, a beautiful alpine lake deep in the North Cascades. You will learn how to prepare and cook an authentic bowl of ramen from a recipe that can easily be replicated on your own hiking or backpacking trips.


What you will learn:

  • Learn how to cook a bowl of authentic backcountry ramen from a trained chef.

  • Learn the rubric for how to build the perfect bowl of ramen (protein, starch, flavor boosters, acid/balance, texture).

  • Learn how to utilize your stove and setup to amplify the flavors of your backcountry ramen.


What's included:

  • Cooking instruction.

  • Cookware (not including personal plate and utensils).

  • All ingredients.

  • Naturalist guide.

  • Photographer.

  • Ramen recipe to use on your next trip!


What's not included:

  • Transportation (carpooling is encouraged!).

  • Parking fees.

  • Snacks.

  • Personal hiking equipment.

  • Lunch gear (silverware, bowls, etc).


We will coordinate with you on what gear to bring if you have any questions.


Itinerary:

  • 8 AM: Meet at Tiger 76 gas station in Granite Falls. Grab breakfast / snacks if needed. Click HERE for directions to Tiger 76 gas station.

  • 8:30 AM: Begin driving to Goat Lake Trailhead.

  • 9:30 AM: Arrive at Goat Lake Trailhead.

  • 9:45 AM: Begin hiking. 

  • 12:45 PM: Cooking instruction begins at Goat Lake.

  • 2:45 PM: Begin hiking back to trailhead.

  • ~5:30 PM: Arrive at trailhead.


The hike to Goat Lake is approximately 12 miles with 1,800 feet of elevation gain. The hike is rated as moderate to hard depending on your fitness and experience. Send an email to info@koascape.com for any trip-related questions.

Guests who cancel more than 30 days before the class: Full refund

Guests who cancel 5–30 days before the class: 50% refund

Guests who cancel less than 5 days before the class: No refund

If Koascape cancels the trip: Full refund
