Hike through lush forest and vibrant wildflower meadows to reach Summerland, a stunning alpine basin with sweeping views of Mount Rainier and surrounding peaks.

About the Hike:

Hike through old‑growth forest and rolling wildflower meadows to reach the breathtaking subalpine basin of Summerland with sweeping views of Mount Rainier and surrounding peaks. Along the hike, you'll learn about Mount Rainier's natural history and cultural significance with Koa, a certified wilderness guide.


Distance: 8.4 miles round trip

Elevation Gain: 2,100 feet

Itinerary:

  • 8 AM: Meet at Charlie's Cafe in Enumclaw. Grab food and/or drinks if needed.

  • 8:30 AM: Begin driving to trailhead.

  • 9:30 AM: Arrive at the trailhead, get ready to hike.

  • 9:45 AM: Begin hiking.

  • 1:30 PM: Arrive at Summerland. Lunch break!

  • 2:30 PM: Begin hiking back to car.

  • 5:30 PM Finish hike and return to cars.

  • Hiking Backpacks (if requested)

  • Trekking Poles (if requested)

  • Microspikes (if requested)


What's not included:

  • Transportation (carpooling is encouraged!)

  • Lunch

  • National Park Entrance Fee (Day pass: $30 per car. If you are visiting Mount Rainier and other national parks this year we recommend purchasing the "America the Beautiful Pass" which is $80 for the year and grants you unlimited access to all US national parks).
